HOW DID YOU GO?

QUESTION 1 of 3: The correct answer was “A”

Professional boundaries are guidelines for maintaining positive and helpful relationships with clients. Understanding boundaries helps doulas avoid stress and misconduct, recognise boundary crossings and provide the best possible care

QUESTIONS 2 of 3: The correct answer was “B”

Our focus as a doula is typically 30% on the dying person and 70% on those surrounding the individual. This percentage is not static and can shift in cases where someone is living independently, etc. But we must remember, at the end of the day, it is not our role to fix family dynamics which have evolved over a lifetime, rather as a doula we simply listen.

QUESTION 3 of 3: The correct answer was “C”

From the NEDA Scope of Practice:

  • For client needs outside of the doula scope of practise, the doula makes referrals to appropriate professionals and community resources.
  • While understanding that doulas will draw from their full range of knowledge, skills and life experience, It is important to realise that offering enhanced or blended services may send a mixed message to the consumer regarding the role of the doula. The doula cannot, for example, be a non-clinical care provider and simultaneously “prescribe” a herbal regimen or assume responsibility for wound care.
  • If a doula wears more than one professional hat and is seeking to leverage their blended skill set (e.g. nurse, social worker, pastor, herbalist, massage therapist) in the course of providing doula services then they may be obliged to make her/his additional roles and credentials transparent to the client.
